The work of this artist is deeply shaped by her multicultural upbringing and unique academic journey. Growing up in a home where multiple languages were spoken and a rich mix of cultural traditions were celebrated, Nadia Kaabi-Linke has always approached art as a means of transcending geographical boundaries. With a focus on both philosophical inquiry and practical artistic techniques, her work blends conceptual depth with experimental approaches. Through exploring invisible structures, hidden truths, and human complexity, she aims to offer fresh perspectives and invite diverse interpretations, guided by a deep connection to her inner world and the forces shaping society. DIVAZ caught up with Kaabi-Linke to discuss her inspiring journey thus far.

Talk to us about your background.
My artistic approach is deeply influenced by my immigrant background and multicultural upbringing. Growing up in a family that spoke four languages and celebrated multiple cultures and religions, I have always resisted being confined to national or regional labels. This experience has shaped my identity as an artist, making me keenly aware of how art can bridge personal histories with broader narratives often overlooked by mainstream institutions.

How have your studies influenced your creative approach?
I began my studies at the School of Fine Arts in Tunis, learning classical techniques and experimenting with various media. I later pursued academic research at Pantheon-Sorbonne in Paris, which shifted my focus toward conceptual art, philosophy, aesthetics, and art history. This academic journey helped me blend theoretical thinking with my practical work and shaped my creative process. My studio became an experimental space to combine media and techniques while using theory to deepen my practice. Today, my work combines the sensual world of material with the intellectual exploration of history, place, and social issues.

What are the main influences that shaped your aesthetic?
I was drawn to this artistic path because of my fascination with invisible structures — hidden violence and taboo subjects that shape cultural expressions, social relations, and our understanding of love. I’m interested in what is left unsaid but always present. I believe art serves as a space for new interpretations and ways of seeing, empowering viewers to read their own truths. My work explores these layers and encourages engagement with human complexity beyond simple visuals. My aesthetic is not about harmony but about what creates it. It’s about the choices we make when drawing a line and how we touch matter with our minds. My work avoids fitting into a conventional style or limiting itself to traditional aesthetics. It’s a dynamic process where theory, practice, and invention are in constant dialogue. My approach is to create space for new interpretations and challenge traditional ways of seeing.

Who is your diva?
Mother Nature is my greatest diva. She’s my biggest inspiration, and following her guidance has always been rewarding.
