Ammar Basheir is a Sudanese designer raised in Dubai and Manama. After studying at Central Saint Martins in London, his sleek, contemporary aesthetic took shape. He gained early experience at Harvey Nichols, where his creative window displays earned him a key role in shaping the brand's image. In 2009, he established his own practice in Bahrain, quickly becoming a sought-after designer for royals and celebrities. Known for blending heritage with modernity, Basheir’s work extends beyond interiors to cultural preservation, solidifying his status as a leading figure in Arab design.

Ammar Basheir, a leading Bahraini designer, attributes much of his early career growth to the mentorship of Fatima Alireza, owner of La Fontaine Center for Contemporary Art. Her guidance helped him refine his design philosophy, which seamlessly merges contemporary aesthetics with cultural heritage. He also shares a strong professional relationship with Sheikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, with whom he has collaborated on significant cultural projects that highlight Bahrain’s creative landscape.

Basheir gained recognition for his restoration of historic Bahraini landmarks, including a 1940s home at Nuzul Al Salam Hotel and the iconic Bahrain Hotel in Manama. Recently, he has expanded his presence beyond Bahrain, establishing Cairo as his second home. His latest ventures include his private residence and an exclusive 22-room boutique hotel in an undisclosed location.

Known for his intricate layering of textures and materials, Basheir’s work embodies both luxury and craftsmanship. His attention to detail is evident in his personal style—he wears a rose gold ring molded to his finger, inspired by ancient Egyptian pharaohs who believed in the power of gold to shape ambition.

Beyond design, Basheir champions the artisans behind his work. His book, The Magician of Materials, features portraits of craftsmen who bring his visions to life, portraying them with regal dignity. He believes Arab designers must embrace collaboration and critique to thrive on a global stage.

With a mission to elevate Middle Eastern design, Basheir rejects Western narratives and stereotypes, instead crafting a vision that celebrates the region’s heritage. For him, design is not just an artistic pursuit but a meaningful profession that preserves culture and enriches communities.
