How has your cultural background shaped your identity?
Since childhood, I grew up in an environment that encouraged creativity and imagination. I was always drawn to Arabic calligraphy, seeing it as a unique way to express myself. Over time, I realized that calligraphy, with its various styles, allowed me to explore deeper and learn from new perspectives, opening doors to see the world differently. My relationship with letters evolved into personal exploration, helping me understand myself better and becoming an essential part of my identity and artistic journey. What began as simple writing became a living language full of beauty and spirituality.
Do you think your work reflects your cultural heritage?
Yes, my work greatly reflects my cultural heritage, especially in my choice of Arabic letters as a key element in my pieces. The Arabic language is a part of our identity and history, and I try to express it in a new and unconventional way, not just as writing but as a visual style that reflects the spirit of heritage while fitting the present era. I love blending the authenticity of Arabic calligraphy with contemporary ideas to offer a fresh perspective. I believe art should not be confined to a specific frame but should allow people to see their heritage from a different angle and be proud of it.
Who is your diva?
Fairuz is one of the figures who had a significant influence on me. I love her not only for her voice but also for her personality. To me, Fairuz represents calm and beauty, connecting the mind and heart simultaneously. Sheikh Imam and Ahmed Fouad Negm also had a huge impact on my life. Whenever I listen to them, I feel deeply Egyptian, as they bring me back to my roots, giving me a sense of pride, simplicity, and strength at the same time.
