Karim El Hayawan is an architect, interior designer and visual artist. He is the co-founder of Design Point. He has a goal to achieve an organic collaboration in the creative Landscape in Egypt, between the audience and the artists.

I often reflect on the concept of “artists” or "art" and wonder, “Why do we create art?” I've realized that we do it because something we see makes us feel something, or because something we feel makes us see something. Art’s beauty lies in its freedom—it guarantees the complete freedom to create however we choose. That’s why when I design, I ask myself, “Did I say what I wanted to say?” This is the guiding principle at my studio, Design Point, where we encourage diversification, exploration, and support designers with strong ideas. We provide the studio as a space to bring those ideas to life. Art is not a machine or industry; it’s about inspiration and never stopping the pursuit of knowledge, whether through cinema, politics, love, philosophy or poetry.

Human achievement is my greatest source of inspiration. I fear missing the chance to witness humanity’s full potential. I want to visit every museum and read every book, embracing everything that drives me. This brings us back to the question of “What is art?” Art doesn’t have to be expensive or created by famous artists. It’s limitless and a gift that allows us to discover who we are and share our minds and hearts with others. Art is a conversation, and what better way to start that conversation than through this issue of DIVAZ? This medium will help you discover some of the brightest talents in Arab art and design, celebrating those who create with freedom and no boundaries.

I see DIVAZ as a catalyst that can express, incubate and support many different entities. We’ve expanded beyond the two-dimensional, and I look forward to you joining us on this artistic journey.​
