What was the final straw that made you transition from a career in gas stations business to becoming a jewelry designer? What was the most challenging part of this transition?

I had always thought that I did it because I love working by hand, but actually, looking back now, it was a self journey, an exploration, and I prefer to experience it in a dynamic way and using the hands is simply a preference. The challenge was that I didn't really know what to go for and following what feels right was full of uncertainty and it wasn’t easy at first.

In today's world of mass-produced products, your commitment to handmade craftsmanship sets you apart in the industry. How did you decide on jewelry making in specific and on having handmade craftsmanship be a pillar in your identity?

One cap doesn’t fit all, and having something special or carrying a specific emotional significance means a lot to me. For me, handmade jewelry has this the most.

Your jewelry and eyewear designs are inspired by human stories. How so? Can you tell us about a particular story or experience that has influenced your work?

The freedom of expression that we had post the revolution in Egypt had a great influence on the first collection of eyewear. It's inspired by the 60s freedom of expression era. They were classic shapes infused with modern urban lines.

Congratulations on your new jewelry line! It’s beautiful. Tell us more about it, its inspiration, process and what made you decide to start including rings in your brand as well.

It includes rings, a band and bracelets. The inspiration behind this collection came from the deconstruction application to express what has been repressed. It's deconstruction-inspired and how you apply it to your learnings and express what have been repressed.

You started out with frames then you started to include other jewelry in your brand as rings. How would you say the process of creating a frame differs from that of a ring or a bracelet?

Frames take much more time and work. Eyewear in general is very challenging, doing a screw-less handcrafted in a silver piece isn’t easy.

How would you hope for the industry to evolve in the next decade and what role do you hope to fill in this future?

I hope it evolves in an authentic direction that AI doesn’t take over the beauty that lies in the process of making a meaningful piece. My role would be to keep doing what I am doing, doing things the traditional way.

Finally, what projects are you currently working on, and what can we expect to see from Amr Saad in the future? Can you give us a sneak peek into your upcoming collection or campaign?

I’m currently working on the launch of this collection. We're launching in a few days. I'm also working on a couple of frames plus other jewelry pieces for hopefully later this year.
